THE NEIGHBORHOOD STORY
River Forest sits immediately west of Oak Park on the Des Plaines River, sharing the latter's extraordinary architectural heritage while maintaining a distinctly quieter, more residential character. The village contains significant Frank Lloyd Wright buildings — including the William Winslow House, his first independent commission — alongside works by other Prairie School masters. It shares Oak Park and River Forest High School, one of Illinois's most celebrated public high schools. And its location on the Des Plaines River creates a wooded, naturalistic setting that gives River Forest a genuine sense of remove from the urban intensity just miles east.
